Martin Luther King Jr. worked to end segregation. He wanted to prove that all men were made equal no matter what color skin they had. Martin did this in many ways. After he graduated from Theological school, he moved back to Alabama with his new wife. There he became a minister. Martin was not liked by many, but tried to get his message to as many people as possible. In February 1959 Martin and his wife Coretta flew to Bombay with a few friends, there the ate with the prime minister, went to press conferences, speeches, and meetings. He also got to meet one of Gandhi's students named Vinoba Bhave. This is what started his great admiration for Ghandi which was one of his influences along with Rosa Parks. Martin's rebellion against segregation started the day Rosa Parks did not give up her seat on the bus. Martin boycotted buses and told his congregation and other ministers to not ride buses, that they should walk or carpool. They then started the MIA (Montgomery Improvement Association) and Martin was asked to be president. People then started to notice Martin and wanted him to start this in other states and not just Alabama. On Thursday January 10, 1957 a meeting was held with ministers from the south. During this meeting they created a new organization the SCLC ( Southern Christian Leadership Conference). A few days before he turned 28 he talked to a mass meeting in Montgomery. This was after many bombs had gone off in his suburban neighborhood. He told the congregation, " Certainly I don't want to die. But if anyone has to die, let it be me." He broke down after he said this. He was then put on the front cover of TIME magazine.
